Fisher Markets with Social Influence

چکیده
A Fisher market is an economic model of buyer and seller interactions in which each buyer’s utility depends only on the bundle goods she obtains. Many people’s interests, however, are affected by their social with others. In this paper, we introduce a generalization markets, namely influence captures impact buyers’ utilities. We show that competitive equilibria markets correspond to generalized Nash associated pseudo-game, implies existence all continuous concave functions. then construct monotone whose variational duals together characterize continuous, jointly concave, homogeneous This observation these can be computed polynomial time under standard smoothness assumptions The dual second pseudo-game enables us interpret CCH as solutions system simultaneous Stackelberg games. Finally, derive novel first-order method solves time, prove it equivalent computing equilibrium prices via tâtonnement, run experiments confirm our theoretical results.

متن کاملTaming the Matthew Effect in Online Markets with Social Influence
Social influence has been shown to create a Matthew effect in online markets, increasing inequalities and leading to “winner-take-all” phenomena. Matthew effects have been observed for numerous market policies, including when the products are presented to consumers by popularity or quality. This paper studies how to reduce Matthew effects, while keeping markets efficient and predictable when so...
متن کاملTaming the Unpredictability of Cultural Markets with Social Influence
Unpredictability is often portrayed as an undesirable outcome of social influence in cultural markets. Unpredictability stems from the “rich get richer” effect, whereby small fluctuations in the market share or popularity of products are amplified over time by social influence. In this paper, we report results of an experimental study that shows that unpredictability is not an inherent property...
متن کاملA Complexity View of Markets with Social Influence
In this paper, inspired by the work of Megiddo on the formation of preferences and strategic analysis, we consider an early market model studied in the field of economic theory, in which each trader’s utility may be influenced by the bundles of goods obtained by her social neighbors. The goal of this paper is to understand and characterize the impact of social influence on the complexity of com...
متن کاملIncentive Ratios of Fisher Markets
In a Fisher market, a market maker sells m items to n potential buyers. The buyers submit their utility functions and money endowments to the market maker, who, upon receiving submitted information, derives market equilibrium prices and allocations of its items. While agents may benefit by misreporting their private information, we show that the percentage of improvement by a unilateral strateg...
